Letter from Thailand: lunch and dinner in Haad Chao Samran
One of the things I definitely enjoy about Thailand is the fresh seafood. However, it’s a real shock to find that even here, in this small, out-of-the-way fishing village, the price of fresh seafood has gone up 30 percent. A big plate of khao pat poo or crab fried rice is Baht 150 (about US$4.75) and a cup of curried crab is Baht 250 (about $8.00). It’s still cheap by New York standards but here that’s quite steep when you consider the daily minimum wage is Baht 176. It should be me a basic “foodie” right to consume crab at a reasonable cost!

Letter from Thailand: On Edge
I was real surprised to learn that Bangkok is nervous because of a terrorism alert and arrest in the city. That’s what Time.com says. But from where I sit in the Starbucks (it’s a sale, buy 1 get 1 free), everyone is calm, the usual traffic jams prevail outside, and street life goes on as usual. Until I get my mocha frappucino don’t talk to me about terrorist threats. I need my sugar fix.
